Bringing the Châtel-Argent fortress to new life, one of the Gran Paradiso's most fascinating castles: this is the objective of the international competition of ideas launched by Reuse Italy, with the patronage of Fondation Grand Paradis and the Municipality of Villeneuve.

 

The competition is open to architects, engineers and students, who are asked to conceive the ancient fortress - chosen for its type of structure and its high-impact natural landscape context - as a place of refuge for hikers, complemented by other public services and an open-air cinema space. The deadline for submitting projects is 13 June. 

 

The competing ideas will lead to an exhibition in Villeneuve during the summer of 2024, as part of the 27th Gran Paradiso Film Festival, and the most innovative solutions will be collected and published next autumn in a dedicated volume.

 

The first step in the collaboration between Reuse Italy, Fondation Grand Paradis and the municipality of Villeneuve has resulted in a documentary on Châtel-Argent, in which the history, architecture and historical context of one of the most fascinating castles in the Gran Paradiso region is told.
